Preparing for Motherhood

The greatest moments in my life were birthing my beautiful sons into the world. Pregnancy can be an exciting but fearful experience for some due to anticipating the birthing process. What's it gonna be like? Will I make it through the pain? Should I get an epidural? So many uncertainties...but there are ways to maintain your peace and allow your nine months to be an amazing journey!

How do you really prepare for motherhood? Babies are such blessings and there is no better place to start preparing than in your mind. Wow, the thought of becoming a mother is such an honor and you can thank the one who made it all possible-- prayers to God will bring peace for the mind, body, and spirit.

It is important to keep your closest supporters in your corner during these times, because the last thing you want is added stress. My husband was the calm I needed if ever I became overwhelmed, and I prayed as often as I could to cover us as the parents, and for the absolute best health of our child--mentally and physically. It is also essential to have good prenatal care and make it to all of your OB appointments...there was nothing greater than to hear my baby's heart beating on the fetal monitor at each doctors' visit.

Self-care is just as important during pregnancy. Rest is essential. Exercise, stretches, and the best part of all-- eating! You don't have to go overboard fulfilling those pregnancy cravings, but it's good to eat with baby in mind, avoiding things that could potentially harm the fetus. You can find a nutrition guide here---> https://americanpregnancy.org/pregnancy-health/diet-during-pregnancy/

Lastly, during the nine months of preparation, prepare for baby's arrival in bits and pieces-- don't try to get everything at one time! Think of the necessities that baby will need first, rather than things that can be purchased after they are born. Below you can find some helpful scriptures for when you are expecting:

  1. Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him. (Psalm 127:3)

  2. I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations. (Jeremiah 1:5)

  3. Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand. (Isaiah 41:10)

  4. Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.(Phillipians 4:6-7)
